The guards leave the house. Kozue peeks though the wooden cabinet doors. Slowly, pushing her way out, her feet touches the frigid wooden floor, shock and confuse.
She sees the bodies of her two parents sprawled on the floor, she runs towards them, grasping a hold on them, first her papa, tugging him back and forth, “Get up or I’ll give you tons of kisses” her shrill voice cries.
Bam, bam, the sound of boards hammered against the back and front doors. The guards ignite the house in a blazing fire.
Kozue rises from the floor and moves towards the door, there is no way out.
